Why Burton?

The legendary Beryl Burton is the most successful female rider in British cycling history. Twice World Road Race champion, in 1960 and 1967, she is perhaps equally well-known in cycling mythology for having offered a Liquorice Allsort to her closest rival, Mike McNamara, in the 1967 British 12-hour time trial championships as she sailed past him and swept to victory. Her distance of 277.25 miles stood as the outright 12-hour record for both men and women for a further two seasons.
